Tiz Carruthers is a UK artist, based in the Cotswolds. Her work is inspired by Victorian Plaster of Paris Cameos. “Elfini” is inspired by Tiz’s childhood in Kano, Nigeria. The headless torso “Isis” is inspired by Egyptian hieroglyphics. Tiz sculpts her pieces in air dried clay then creates a silicone mould, she then casts them in Plaster of Paris, which is light weight enough to mount in box frames. She plays with light and mirrors that bounce the light and uses the 3 dimensions of light, day light, black light (UV) and glow in the dark. Tiz uses feathers, maps, metal leaf and petals to 'dress' each piece. Every piece is a totally unique, never to be repeated. Tiz is now focusing on dog portraits.
